THE latest figures on new home building approvals suggest that activity across the Hunter and Central Coast may be plateauing, the Housing Industry Association said this week.

Over the 12 months to July, 2016, a total of 5435 approvals had been issued for new dwellings across the Hunter and Central Coast, compared to 5460 for the year to July, 2015.
HIA executive director for the Hunter, Craig Jennion, said the largest element of the local market, detached dwellings, had continued to grow by 5 per cent.
“And with very low lending rates and reports of further multi-unit projects proposed, this should provide support to the residential construction sector over the near term,” Mr Jennion said.
“Furthermore, there is actually plenty of good news across the sector with the renovations market trending up,” he said.
