The Garage Sale Trail is an annual event where thousands of garage sales happen on the same day and residents can buy and sell reused treasures.
Central Coast Council is currently ranked No 2 in Australia in terms of the number of registered garage sales on the day.
Council’s administrator Ian Reynolds said the Central Coast was right behind the event.
“At the moment, there is only 27 sales difference between Brisbane and the Central Coast,” he said.
“Council would love to make the Central Coast the most sustainable region in Australia.”
Mr Reynolds said the Garage Sale Trail connected the community but also boosted the local economy.
“The positive impact this event has on reducing the amount of waste going into landfill is positive for our environment and we appreciate the Coast’s residents support so far,” he said.
“So come on, Central Coast, let’s beat the Queenslanders and be No 1 in Australia.”
Council is encouraging local schools, community groups, charity groups, sellers, buyers, creators and, everyone, really, to think creatively about how to reuse items that might otherwise be put out for council collection and end up in landfill.
“It is a fun, easy way to declutter your home, make some pocket money and turn your trash into someone else’s treasure,” Mr Reynolds said.
Registered sales receive a free sellers pack and access to an interactive website to promote their event. Shoppers can visit the website to track what events are on the Central Coast.
