GOLF was the reason to come to Magenta Shores, but the desire to have a course on the doorstep and one’s own clubhouse to share with family and friends prompted the building of this stunning residential retreat.

The golf-enthusiast owners visited the Central Coast estate on the northern side of The Entrance to play their sport of choice as part of a special event.
Finding the surrounds tranquil and the course excellent, the Sydneysiders decided to look for some real estate.
With available properties not quite what they were after, they then looked for a block land to build a custom home.
“We found this beautiful north-facing block,” the owner says. “It overlooked a dam … and the golf course.”
The owners chose to work with Coastal Construction and Building.
“They’ve got a good reputation,” the owner says.
“They’ve been wonderful every step of the way.”
The input of designer David Carter, of Design Smart Living, was a bonus too.
“He was really good in coming up with exactly what we wanted with the interiors,” the owner says.
The couple describe the five-bedroom home as having a North Atlantic look.
“We love it,” the owner says. “It’s absolutely beautiful. It’s got all the things that we wanted.”
The residence features a ground-floor bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe, an adjoining bathroom, open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas, a butler’s pantry with wine rack, laundry, powder room, double-car garage and alfresco dining area.
The owner says the layout of the utility areas is especially handy after grocery shopping, as she can walk parcels straight from the car parked in the garage to the adjoining laundry, and butler’s pantry.
The utility rooms are great spaces for food preparation and clean up when entertaining guests, who can enjoy the full use of the kitchen, dining and living spaces, the owner says.
Upstairs are four bedrooms, the master with an ensuite, a living room, bathroom and separate toilet and storage space.
All of the upstairs bedrooms have balconies.
The owners split their time between the Central Coast and Sydney.
The extra bedrooms are for their children and grandchildren and friends who come to stay.
“The house is built for entertaining,” the owner says.
“Every weekend we seem to have visitors.
“Our friends, our golfing friends.
“They come up for the weekend, we play golf.
“It suits our lifestyle.
“No one has to drive home after.”
The ease with which the house accommodates the couple’s social life is something that they love about their new home.
“It’s so easy for entertaining,” the owner says.
“The rooms are big.
“We have a lovely north aspect.
“So when we sit out on the decks we’ve got it’s just lovely.”
Coastal Construction and Building director Mark Walsh says the high-end finish is a feature of the home.
It shows in the custom joinery in the kitchen (the look of which the owner describes as “Hamptons style”), in vanity units and wine rack.
The detailed carpentry in the pergolas, raked ceilings, an air-conditioning system that can be temperature controlled room-by-room (including in the pantry to aid wine storage), quality tiles and 15 centimetre-wide grey box timber flooring in the main living areas (the bedrooms are carpeted) add to the high-end feel of the place.
The timber is one of the owner’s favourite features.
“We’ve got a lovely grey box floor and we’ve got an open-tread staircase in the same timber,” she says.
“It’s [the staircase is] lovely, it’s a light well.
“It’s probably one of the design features of the house.
“The flooring was expensive, but I think it was worth every penny.”
It is also an ideal place to display the owners’ oriental rugs.
While the golf course attracted the couple to Magenta Shores, it is the estate overall keeping them there.
“It’s just so peaceful,” the owner says.
“There’s no traffic noise.
“You can hear the surf, especially in the evening.
“You’re looking out over one of the most beautiful golf courses in the state.
“It’s just really serene.”
And while the house was built with family and old friends in mind, it is fast becoming a place for making new acquaintances too.
“It’s a very friendly area,” the owner says.
“We’ve got to know quite a lot of people already.”
