This year, the association introduced the Esme Moore Umpires Award, named in honour of the Westlakes' life member who passed away last year.
“Esme's daughters Gina and Kerrie were invited to our annual presentation night to be able to introduce this trophy in the memory of their mother,” Westlakes’ Kerrie Brady said.
The trophy is to be presented to the district’s most committed umpire for the season, at both club and representative level.
The inaugural recipient was Toni Shearman.
“Toni’s continued dedication to Westlakes umpiring has been confirmed by her attendance at representative training this season, two nights per week,” Ms Brady said.
“Toni attended nearly every carnival, nominating for State League games, and was selected by Netball NSW to umpire for the finals.
“When an umpire’s allocation was not given, Toni would then contact other associations and request to umpire for them.”
The association’s other perpetual trophy, the John Jarmain Award, is presented to the person who displays an exceptional commitment to representative netball.
“This year’s recipient was our president Pamella Burt who continually goes above and beyond for the association and all its members,” Ms Brady said.
