The Rathmines-based not-for-profit theatre group, now in its 42nd year, is known for its fundraising efforts for the local community.
The group has raised more than $210,000 which it has donated to the community.
It is also known for staging its annual productions at Rathmines Community Hall.
But the ongoing closure of the hall due to asbestos remediation works by Lake Macquarie City Council has forced a change of venue.
The three one-act comedies are When I Snap My Fingers by Bruce Adam, The Man On The Floor by Neil Simon, and Mary, Mary by Bruce Adam.
They will be directed by Helen Bristow.
“When I Snap My Fingers is an example of what can happen when hypnosis by The Great Sven Gali (played by Peter Saunders) goes wrong,” Ms Bristow said.
If you’ve ever suffered from a bad back, you’ll sympathise with The Man On The Floor, Ms Bristow said.
And Mary,Mary provides a real dilemma for Terry Wilson (Wes Galvin). His mother Mary (Helen Kerr) has invited one of his work colleagues, Mary Mackenzie (Jenny Markham) for dinner.
But Terry has also brought home an unexpected guest, Mary Levin (Jocelyn Kroll).
Over the years, Catalina Players have made donations to a range of individuals and organisations including local schools, families in crisis, injured or disabled people, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, and cancer support groups.
“We are looking forward to another bumper year and with your support we can continue to entertain while maintaining our donations,” Ms Bristow said.
These comedies, interspersed with a three-course dinner and extras, will be performed at Wangi Workers Club on August 6, 13, 20 and 27, then September 3 and 10 September.
Tickets for the show and dinner cost $50 and includes hors d’oéuvres, tea and coffee.
