Singleton’s Cody Heffernan and Gresford’s Lachie Richardson have again proven themselves to be among Australia’s best bull riders, after clinching the top spots in the Professional Bull Riding National Final in Sydney at the weekend.
Cody was named PBR Australia National Champion, while Lachie finished the gruelling season in second place.
It’s a remarkable result for Cody, but even more so for Lachie, who at just 23 is a rising star in the bullpen.
Lachie has been riding bulls with his elder brother Cliff for 14 years.
Since 2012, he’s flexed his muscle in the US, the world’s bull riding capital, chasing an attractive prize purse that can be as high as US$35-45,000 for a win.
“When I look back, I couldn’t ride nothin’ when I started, but we all loved it enough to build it into something,” Lachie said.
“It’s not for muck around anymore – it’s a career.”
