I AM curious to know if others have had their telephone cut off on the day of their connection to the NBN.

This happened without any authority from us, the subscriber for many years, and without informing us we had been issued with a new number.
It was only after a few days when I realised we were not getting any calls or messages, but were receiving emails asking if our phone was out of order as they couldn’t reach us. I rang the NBN/Telstra number reporting a fault and was cheerfully told: “Oh, we have issued you with a new number when we hooked you up.”
We were not asked nor told this had been done. I said we wanted our old number restored immediately as earlier I had been told nothing would change. Yes, they could restore our old number but it would take five working days.
I rang after five days and was told: “Oh, we need another 24 to 48 hours.” This has happened twice since.
Yesterday I received an email advising me all was completed – it still doesn’t work. There is much more to this saga but I would like to know by whose authority your telephone number for many years can arbitrarily be terminated and the client given a new number and not told?
