Businesses on the northern and eastern shores of Lake Macquarie traditionally dominate the annual awards.
Of the 16 awards up for grabs last year, only two went to Westlakes businesses: Michel’s Patisserie at Toronto won for Excellence in Retail Practices, and the mobile dog grooming enterprise, Splash Puppy, of Marmong Point, won for Excellence in a New Business.
Winner of the Young Business Person of the Year in 2015, Shayne Connell, the regional manager for Cancer Council NSW, said it’s well worth the time and effort for businesses to nominate themselves.
“The awards are the ideal platform to promote the great work of your organisation, recognise high achievers and attain tangible benefits for your business,” Mr Connell said.
“I’d encourage all businesses in Lake Macquarie to consider a nomination.”
Previous winners say the awards are a great tool for building business credibility and solidifying external relationships.
Rachael Sheldrick, of GS Mechanical, at Whitebridge, was the 2015 winner for Excellence in Entrepreneurship and was named the 2015 Business Person of the Year.
She said she had experienced measurable growth for her business which she partly attributes to the Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards.
She believes winning can be used to leverage joint ventures.
“The Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards can be so much more than just a trophy and certificate at the front desk,” Ms Sheldrick said.
“The awards can give you and your business credibility - a seal of approval that encourages others to trust and work with you.”
The Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards are run by the Business Growth Centre.
The aim of the awards is to recognise Lake Macquarie businesses who provide exemplary products, services and so much more.
The award categories for 2016 focus on a range of business functionalities including branding and marketing, business systems, workforce training and development, customer service, innovation, entrepreneurship, retail practices, workplace health and safety and sustainability.
The three major awards acknowledge the contribution of an individual or business to the Lake Macquarie community.
Dantia is the major sponsor of the awards.
Winners of the 2016 Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards will be announced at a gala dinner on Saturday, July 23, at Belmont 16s.
To enter the 2016 awards, businesses must be based in or have an operation in the Lake Macquarie local government area.
Entries close on May 20.
