Kayaks, dragon boats, stand-up paddle boards, and outriggers are just a few of the craft you’ll see on the lake around Speers Point Park for Paddlefest on Sunday morning, February 28.
Event hosts Toronto Sunrise Rotary Club are now accepting team and individual entries from local businesses, community groups and families to take part in this fun day.
The frenetic action and teamwork on show in the dragon boat and outrigger races is always a highlight.
Stand-up paddle boarders can take part in the beginner event, a sprint, or 5km challenge.
And there will be sprint and relay events over 5km, 10km and 20km for a variety of craft.
Or register to join the cruisy Five Islands Discovery Paddle.
Toronto Sunrise Rotary Club president Graham Streeter said all proceeds from Paddlefest would again go to community projects, helping people in need.
“This year, proceeds will go to supporting families in our local community impacted by cancer, and to the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund supporting cancer research,” Mr Streeter said.
To date, more than $140,000 has been raised by Paddlefest to support causes as diverse as supporting homeless people, providing sail boats and equipment for sailors with a disability in Toronto, and purchasing shelter boxes for international disasters.
Competition in the outrigger races is sure to be especially keen, Mr Streeter said.
“This year will see the participation of over 200 cubs and scouts trying their skills in the outriggers,” he said.
Entry fees start at $10 for paddlers younger than 18, and $25 for adult paddlers. The $25 entry fee entitles adults to enter multiple events.
