THE nominees for the 2015 Lake Macquarie Sports Awards have been announced, with a motor car racer, pistol shooter, sailor and boxer in line for the top honour.

Council’s community planning manager, John Ferguson, said the awards acknowledge the outstanding performance of local sportspeople and volunteer administrators.
“This year’s nominees have come from a variety of sports including luge, floorball, motor racing, futsal, equestrian, boxing, hockey, athletics, baseball, gymnastics, orienteering, sailing, powerlifting and many more,” Mr Ferguson said.
“Lake Macquarie City has a high number of exceptional sports people, as well as volunteer administrators who ensure these sports are available to the community.
“I congratulate all of the nominees for doing a tremendous job representing our city in their respective fields.”
Nominations were received across the six award categories: Junior Male Sportsperson, Junior Female Sportsperson, Sports Administrator of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Sports Scholarship Award for Athletes with a Disability, and Masters Sportsperson of the Year.
Council will announce the winners during the Lake Macquarie Sports Dinner on Saturday, February 13, at Belmont 16 Foot Sailing Club.
The nominees are.-
Sportsperson of the Year: Aaren Russell (motor racing), Melinda Mullen (target pistol shooting), Michael Brown (sailing), and Richard Smith (professional boxing).
Junior Female Sportsperson: Kaylan Moloney (gymnastics); Imogen Petrie (athletics), Beth Slade (luge), Erika Enderby (orienteering), Mikayla Enderby (orienteering), Sarah Pickering (athletics), Jessica Pickering (trampolining, diving), Jade Hemaridis (softball), Kaitlyn Klein (athletics, cross country), Kiahni Jarrah Abell (hockey, floorball), Hannah Southwell (football, rugby), Jorgie Hills (gymnastics), and Yasmin Skene (floorball, hockey).
Junior Male Sportsperson: James Savin (athletics, rugby league, rugby union), Jake Bramble (baseball), Kai Chapman (cycling), Alexander Well (baseball), Lucas Mackaway (waterpolo), Jack Hardman (Australian football), Joseph Ferguson (Australian football), Simon Hoffman (sailing), Liam Purcell (baseball), Kayne Gilmore (athletics), Ethan Thomas Gilmore (athletics, soccer), and Harrison Dowdell (football).
Sports Scholarship Award for Athletes with a Disability: Erin Cleaver (athletics), Mitchel Meares (ten pin bowling), Blake Car (athletics), Ben Swain (cycling), Callum Sanderson (swimming).
Sports Administrator of the Year: Maxwell Jeffrey Bristow (weightlifting, powerlifting), Margrete Erling (equestrian), Jimmy Newburn (Australian football), and Dianne McLeod (hockey).
Masters Sportsperson of the Year: Maxwell Jeffrey Bristow (weightlifting, powerlifting), Damien Enderby (mountain biking), Jenny Enderby (orienteering and mountain biking), Cameron McKenzie (powerlifting), Hakan Canli (futsal), and Laraine Dunn (seniors’ health).
