That’s the prize on offer for the first golfer to make a hole-in-one on the 185-metre par-three 10th hole during the four-person ambrose event.
The Morisset Memorial Cup is staged by South Lake Macquarie sub-Branch of the Returned and Services League (RSL).
Convenor Des Green said the event, now in its third year, raises money for the construction of a significant war memorial in Morisset.
“It’s rare that you get a prize on offer like this for an amateur golf day,” Mr Green said.
He praised Lake Macquarie Nissan, at Cardiff, for coming on board as major sponsor of the day.
“When we approached the dealer principal there, Matthew Ferguson, we asked how he might like to get involved,” Mr Green said.
“And he said: How about a new car for a hole-in-one?’.
“Matthew has played here a few times and he picked the 10th hole to have it on.”
Mr Green said the event grows every year, and community support for the day, and the cause, was heartening.
Noraville Earthmovers, Affordable Wardrobes, Ford Homes, Lake Macquarie Hotel and Dave’s Pro Shop at Morisset Golf Club are among the other major supporters of the day.
“There’s a lot of community spirit in the golfing fraternity,” Mr Green said.
“And the golf pro here, Dave Stretton, has been absolutely supportive of this event and wants to make it a regular day on the golfing calendar.”
The RSL sub-branch has long been in talks with Lake Macquarie City Council and hopes to construct a large war memorial at the corner of Dora and Stockton streets, in Morisset.
“The memorial would face onto Auston Oval and it would mean that on Anzac Day we could house everyone on the oval,” Mr Green said.
The RSL sub-branch hopes to have the first stage of the memorial completed for Remembrance Day, 2018.
There are vacancies for Friday’s event, and hole sponsorships are available.
Registration is at 8am for a 9am shotgun start. The entre fee includes prizes, breakfast, a post-game auction and drinks.
