The Lakes Grammar student also has a firm idea of what his earning potential might be.
“When I get older I want to be a millionaire,” Theodore said.
“I’d like to get a job as a statistician, or in something involving technology, but my ideal job would be to work with NASA.’’
Theodore recently topped the year 6 division in the Hunter section of the Newcastle Permanent’s primary maths competition.
What’s more, he scored 99 per cent in the contest, with his result achieving a percentile rank of 100.
“I got one question wrong in the whole thing, but that meant I had to share first place with three other students,” he said.
It was the first four-way tie in the competition’s 35-year history.
Spokesperson for the Warnervale-based school, Bev Seers, said Theodore’s achievement was impressive.
‘’The Newcastle Permanent primary maths competition is an opportunity for high achieving mathematics students to challenge themselves against students from schools right across the Newcastle, Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast, New England and North Coast areas,’’ Lakes Grammar spokesperson Beverly Seers said.
This year’s competition involved more than 18,157 students from 311 schools.
Lakes Grammar students Jeremy Beale received a district award for achieving 10th place, while Madeline James and Eloise Cliff also finished in the top 100 of the year 6 division.
Co-ordinator of teaching and learning at the school, Nicole Walters, said it was a great result for the school.
“It is an outstanding result to have four students in the top 100 for the year 6 division of this esteemed competition and we are thrilled for our students and their achievements,” Mrs Walters said.
“Of our 25 students from our year 5/6 opportunity class that sat the exam, 13 students (52 per cent) have performed with either a high distinction or a distinction.’’
