It’s one of several issues to be discussed at the final quarterly meeting of Bonnells Bay Progress Association (BBPA) next week.
‘‘Alternatives to alleviate the road safety problem at the Morisset Park Road entrance to the school are further being developed by Lake Macquarie City Council, the school management, and the association,’’ BBPA president Col Roach said.
‘‘The original plan to rectify the problem has been abandoned owing to the presence of a high pressure gas main under the surface on the western side of the road, preventing the construction of improved parking, a footpath and a manned crossing,’’ Mr Roach said.
Across the district, 2015 had been a year of ‘‘some gains’’ and ‘‘some works in progress’’, Mr Roach said.
‘‘The fight to have the Morisset police station rebuilt had taken a long time but the recent approval of the development application and the demolition of the old building has been welcomed by all Southlake residents,’’ he said.
‘‘The operation of the Dog Squad and the Transport Command also from the Morisset facility is a big win for the area.’’
At Belmont, the recent opening of the new Lake Macquarie Local Area Command headquarters had boosted police morale, Lake Macquarie LAC’s acting superintendent Steve Kentwell said.
Mr Roach said improvements at Bonnells Bay had also been appreciated.
‘‘The further development of facilities at the rear of the Bonnells Bay Youth and Community Centre saw the completion in July of the popular children’s playground which has been welcomed by all parents.
“Further projects at the centre are in the pipeline over the next few years.’’
Independent Member for Lake Macquarie Greg Piper will be guest speaker at the meeting.
‘‘All residents are invited to the meeting as Greg will discuss both electorate and state matters with time made available for questions,’’ Mr Roach said.
The meeting will be held at Bonnells Bay Youth and Community Centre on Wednesday, December 2, at 7.30pm.
