The forum, held at Mannering Park on Friday, heard from support service providers, victims, and residents simply wanting to know what they could do to become part of a solution.
"Domestic violence affects so many people's lives in this area," the Labor MP said.
"Today I learned about the support services that are available for victims, and that the shortage of emergency accommodation in our local communities needs to be addressed."
The announcement by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of the government's $100 million package aimed at combating violence against women was a positive step, Ms Hall said.
"I welcome the package, and I particularly welcome the fact that Mr Turnbull is talking about gender equity and respect," she said.
"It's a start, but there's a lot more that needs to be done. There needs to be funding given to services that operate on the ground.
"We need to make sure that this package is just the start, and not the end."
The forum heard from representatives of San Remo Neighbourhood Centre and Coast Shelter, which provides emergency accommodation, including for women and children from Lake Macquarie and the Central Coast, who have been displaced by violence in the home.
Hearing personal stories of domestic-violence victims at the forum had highlighted the urgent need for action, Ms Hall said.
"I think it would be very beneficial if Mr Turnbull were to convene a meeting of all the stakeholders, involving all of the states," she said.
