The 15-strong group has taken over the shed at the rear of the music pavilion in Cooranbong Park, which is in need of some love to comply with the Australian Building Code.
Retired builder Kevin Dunn said the fit-out would be mostly carried out by the members.
"The hardest part most Men's Shed groups have is getting a shed - well we've got one, we just need to get it up to scratch," Mr Dunn said.
To meet council requirements the shed needs toilets, wheelchair access and a pathway from the car park - which alone will cost about $34,000.
The group has other plans in mind for the shed and is looking for a total of $86,000 to get its shed in tip top shape.
"Most of this we are hoping will come in the form of grants - and to chase the bigger grants we need more members," Mr Dunn said.
Membership is open to men of all ages who are interested in improving their practical skills.
Cooranbong Men's Shed is also looking for donations of tools.
"We already had a lot of machinery donated to us, but we don't have many hand tools," Mr Dunn said.
A key aim of the Cooranbong Men's Shed is to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of its members.
"Even if people come along just to have a coffee and a yarn - it's good for your mental health."
■ The next Cooranbong Men's Shed meeting will be at the music pavilion at Cooranbong Park on Wednesday, September 2, at 10am, with new members welcome. For more information phone Kevin on 4977 2247.
