Cameron's new role as Northern NSW coach/pathway manager will service the Newcastle, Central Coast, North Coast and Central Northern cricket regions.
Cameron, the Newcastle zone academy coach, will be based in Newcastle in the new position.
An accomplished fast bowler, Cameron played 16 first class matches during his career, taking 68 wickets with the best figures of 6-22 against Queensland in 2010.
Cameron also represented Western Australia and Australia A, playing 12 One-Day Cup matches and six domestic T20s.
He spearheaded the Merewether attack in the Newcastle district competition last season.
Cricket NSW general manager of cricket performance David Moore said Cameron had a strong commitment to taking high performance cricket forward in country NSW.
"We want to make sure our targeted cricketers get the best opportunity to succeed while living in the country and increase our network of coaches," Moore said.
Being a former first-class player, Cameron will be providing support to players coming through the ranks, knowing first-hand what it takes to play for their state.
"For country players in particular it's great to have some role models who have been there and done that," Moore said.
Former NSW off-spinner Greg McLay will take on the same role in Southern NSW servicing the Southern, Illawarra, Riverina and Western districts. Both coaches start on Monday.
