Residents are invited to vote for their favourite local fish and chips, and favourite local seafood restaurant.

It's part of this year's Sydney Fish Market Seafood Excellence Awards.

Splash Seafood Toronto, on The Boulevarde, is hoping to garner some of the Lake Macquarie vote.

"For great fish and chips you need freshly made batter for the fish, and to cook it straight away," Sandy Chheur of Splash Seafood Toronto said.

There are different fish species on the store menu with gemfish the choice for standard fish and chips orders.

Voting in the people's choice categories will remain open until August 13.
