While reading the letter my mind wandered back to a true story from the 1920s, based in Tennessee, of a young teacher John T Scopes who was persecuted, prosecuted and vilified for teaching the theory of evolution in biology class.
His story was later made into the film Inherit the Wind.
When attending Morisset High School in 1956 we had no choice other than the creationist point of view to explain the origin of life.
Questions went unanswered and we were told to refer to the Bible.
Religious education has no place in public education.
And to the Reverend Fred Nile I say the minds of my grandchildren and others will have a choice, something that was not given to me.
