ORICA Australia has been fined $120,000 for spilling grout over 280 metres of creekbed in the Sugarloaf State Conservation Area near Ryhope.

In the Land and Environment Court on Friday, Justice Brian Preston found the company guilty of two breaches but said it had not acted intentionally or recklessly or been motivated by profit.
Almost 150 cubic metres of grout spilled from cracks in the park in July 2012 during remediation of mine subsidence.
Newcastle councillor Michael Osborne likened the fine to hitting the industrial giant with a wet lettuce.
