COUNCILLOR Rosmairi Dawson has welcomed the start of demolition work on Morisset police station, and said the new police building would not affect council's plans for a Morisset town square and community building.

The new station had the potential to complement the proposed town square which was still in the very early stages, she said.
"I've always felt [the town square] is eight to 10 years away," Cr Dawson said.
Council is carrying out a heritage assessment of Morisset Memorial Hall which would have to be demolished under the council's present plan.
The assessment will focus on the social history of the hall, along with its structural fabric.
