The Roos were determined to bounce back from their heavy loss in round five.
They came out with guns blazing only to fall short in the final minutes.
While Beaches led 22-20 at half-time, they couldn't shake the Roos in the muddy conditions.
Lake Macquarie fought back to lead 35-32 shortly before full-time.
Then Beaches fullback Adrian Delore beat two defenders and raced 20 metres to score under the sticks for a converted try for the win.
■ The Roos take on Newcastle University, one point ahead of them on the ladder, at Walters Park, this Saturday at 3pm.
