"We are grateful for the offer from the NSW Government Department of Correctional Services for the extra manual labour from their Community Projects Team to help clean up our shire," mayor Doug Eaton said.
"It doesn't matter where you go in the shire, there is debris everywhere."
The inmates will clear rubbish from around Tuggerah Lakes so the trees and branches can be mulched and reused.
"The five man crew, with their supervisor, will be doing low-priority tasks we might never get to," council's natural areas section manager Alan Cibilic said.
All are screened minimum security inmates, a council spokesperson said.
