A special assembly was held so that the students could hear from local woman Bec Marcuccio, whose husband Rocky, 29, died from brain cancer on April 23 this year, less than eight months after they were married.
Students made a gold coin donation for Rocky's Legacy, a fundraising initiative set up by Ms Marcuccio on Facebook to raise funds for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, the largest dedicated fundraiser of brain cancer research in Australia.
"The children came to school in their beanies, they've run around in the playground in their beanies, and they've also worn them during lessons today," head of junior school Will Wallace said.
Mr Wallace was among many teachers who donned beanies.
"We're proud to support the foundation, and it's a cause that has been close to the school for some time."
Lakes Grammar teacher Carol Jordan passed away due to brain cancer several years ago, he said.
