A three-storey apartment development in Wyong Street, by Impression Group, is creating both affordable housing and local youth employment options.

Impression Group developer Scott Ellam said building the apartment block had created jobs for a host of young locals.

"The job has generated two apprenticeships and one labourer for Westlakes Bricklaying, one apprentice for Scott Royan of All Electrical Services Wangi, two apprentice carpenters and one trainee office manager for Impressions Group," Mr Ellam said.

"The significance of these apprenticeships is that in each case it would not have occurred without the Wyong Street development and the follow-on work we are committed to in Morisset."

Mr Ellam said he prefers to use local contractors because they take more pride in their work.

"They live local, grew up local, and they have to drive past what they build every day," he said.

Mr Ellam said the demand for apartments in Morisset has never been higher and will continue to grow because the average price gap between houses and apartments in the region was shrinking.

"There's a big demand for apartments in Toronto, but five years ago that wasn't the case." The first block of units in Wyong Street should be completed by the end of the month.
