There are obviously many worthy causes or brave and dedicated people to nominate to represent the town of Morisset.
I would like to add my suggestion for the sculpture to interpret the history of Morisset.
The town was named after Major James Thomas Morisset. This remarkable man first came to Australia in 1817 as a soldier with the 48th Regiment.
Major Morisset gave a lifetime of service to Australia serving in Newcastle, Bathurst and Norfolk Island before selling his commission and taking up residence in Australia.
He worked as a police magistrate until he died on August 17, 1852.
His descendants are many and they have served their country in all wars and conflicts and in public service positions as police officers, nurses, teachers etc. Many have established businesses and all raised their families in Australia.
Many of the descendants of James Thomas Morisset are still living in the Lake Maquarie.
There is no doubt that my vote will be for a statue of Major James Thomas Morisset as he was my great-great-great-grandfather.
