MANNERING Park Progress would like to express its gratitude to everyone for their tireless work and courage during the last week of terrifying weather conditions.
The true spirit of neighbourliness was very evident in our small town.
There were people checking on elderly neighbours, offers of thermoses of boiling water and many invites to impromptu barbecues, that continued as long as the town had no power.
The people who rarely get a public thank you are the workers from Wyong Council.
In our area alone, we had at least four council trucks, with very exhausted workers, at midnight during the peak of the storm.
These men were following the trail of fallen gum trees, ensuring the areas were safe and where the water mains had been lifted by roots, they were stopping the water flowing through the pipes to prevent further damage to property.
These men don't get too much public praise, but they certainly earned it last week.
The electricity linesmen who also risked their lives in such dangerous conditions are also on our list for gratitude.
The crews from the SES, who gave up their weekends to come and help remove the huge gum trees from our roads were also incredible.
From our small community we all say thank you to the wonderful people who pulled together and helped us in terrible conditions.
- Deborah Denzel, publicity officer for Mannering Park Progress
