The unit started in 1935 with 13 members, including local hero Bernie Goodwin, and was originally named 1st Morisset Scout Group.
To separate its name from the 1960s stigma of the hospital the group changed its name to 1st Byattunga Scout Group.
Byattunga is Aboriginal for "camp on the hill", signifying the group's closeness to the Watagan Mountains.
Byattunga group leader Rick Gomez said the organisation catered for people aged six to 26 and new members were always welcome.
"Cubs and Scouts has a very well rounded program that covers the whole spectrum of youth - social, mental, physical, community," he said.
The group does a range of activities, but camping is still the main event, plus hiking and canoeing, a range of physical activities along with arts and crafts.
Mr Gomez said Byattunga was always on the lookout for parents who wanted to become Scout leaders or sit on the parent committee.
The group will be holding a trivia night at Morisset Country Club on Friday, May 8, to celebrate its 80-year milestone.
The money raised will go towards new equipment and the 2016 Jamboree, which is a national Scouts event that only comes around every three years.
