Local man Keith Bragg said the pothole posed a danger to traffic travelling in both directions, and to pedestrians. He sent a photo to the Lakes Mail showing how vehicles crossed the centre line of the road to avoid the hazard.
"The pothole had been in this position for at least six months and was caused mainly by the poor road drainage at the location and is exacerbated by the large volume of heavy vehicles travelling to and from the Johnston Property Group works at Trinity Point," Mr Bragg said.
Lake Macquarie City councillor Wendy Harrison said she brought the matter to the attention of council staff.
Mr Bragg wasn't entirely happy with the work that ensued.
"The only work carried out was some hotmix placed in the pothole. There has been no attempt to fix the poor drainage that is causing the problem, and new potholes are already developing," he said.
He also called for the construction of a shared pathway at the site.
Pedestrians are currently forced to walk on the road there, he said.
The development of the proposed Trinity Point marina would heighten the need for the work, he said.
