Just after 10.10pm on Saturday, police were called to Sparks Road at Woongarrah following reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Police said initial investigations suggest a 56-year-old Wyee woman was driving a Kia Cerato along Sparks Road and had stopped at a set of traffic lights when a silver Ford Falcon travelling behind the woman allegedly crashed into the back of her car.
The impact caused the Kia to enter the intersection and mount a gutter.
Police said the driver of the Ford allegedly left the car and ran from the scene.
The woman was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital, suffering critical injuries.
On Sunday, a 24-year-old Budgewoi man attended Wyong Police Station. He was arrested and faces several charges.
