AIRBORNE pollution from coal-fired power stations in the Hunter Valley is raising concern about health issues yet Lake Macquarie's coal-fired generation rarely receives a mention.
Going on reported levels published in the Newcastle Herald, Vales Point combined with nearby Eraring power station are one of the major polluters.
But unlike the power stations in the Hunter Valley, the two Lake Macquarie power stations have a high density population in close proximity.
Surely if changes are to be made, Lake Macquarie should be the starting point.
Although these stations are no longer government owned, it does not mean all of the government's responsibility goes with the sale.
Should I dare ask the questions: Have these power stations been built in the wrong place? Should they be moved?
Or have people built their houses in the wrong place?
Many will say renewable energy sources are the answer but given the present state of development, renewables will never keep up with growing demand at an affordable price.
Maybe nuclear energy is the only solution, away from population growth.
Or should we pretend I never wrote this letter?
