Newcastle City (12.12.84) outgunned the Dockers (3.2.20) in a one-sided affair.
Lake Macquarie Dockers' president Brad Farrell said he was happy with his team's defensive pressure, but said they need to control the ball more while in possession.
"The endeavour was there and everyone worked hard defensively, but we need to work on hitting our targets," Farrell said.
Fullback Harley Davis stood up in defence and earned the Dockers' best on ground honours.
"Harley shut down Newcastle City's key target - he usually kicks seven or eight goals, but Harley held him to only one or two," Farrell said.
Lake Macquarie's start to the season doesn't get any easier this weekend.
They will take on defending champions Wyong Lakes, at Tulkaba Park, Teralba, on Sunday, at 1pm.
"You've got to play them [Wyong] at some point, so why not play them at the start and learn from it?" Farrell said.
