At 7.30pm, police and emergency services responded to a serious crash involving a speedway car and a race steward at Westline Speedway on Iron Knob Road.
The steward was taken to Whyalla hospital but the 58-year-old Findon man died as result of his injuries.
The driver involved did not suffer any physical injuries.
The area was cordoned off to allow for investigations to take place following the incident.
Major Crash Investigators flew to the scene on Sunday and will prepare a report for the state coroner.
Police are continuing to work to support the families of those involved.
Speedway South Australia also extended its thoughts to the families and raceway community members affected by the fatal incident.
