Further savings will be achieved by the installation of solar panels at council sites including its works depot, Speers Point Swim Centre, Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery and the Swansea Multi-Purpose Centre.
"The move to upgrade lighting and install solar panels at council sites across the city is another positive step towards creating a more sustainable community," the council's sustainability manager Alice Howe told the Lakes Mail.
"Making these seemingly small changes will result in annual cost savings for council, as well reducing our energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions," she said.
