Macquarie coach Barrie Moore said despite missing four regular first graders, his team showed real grit in defence.
"It was a tough game - everyone played well across the park," Moore said.
Moore said new recruit Teason Faavae Eli played particularly well at hooker, filling in for 2014 Newcastle Player of the Year, Chris Hyde.
Moore is confident the Scorpions' good form will continue at their first premiership game of the season against Lakes United on April 12.
