The competition will consist of six teams.
Lake Macquarie Dockers women's coach Greg Yanda said the team is open age and players of all skill levels are welcome.
"There is an emphasis on fun and fitness - we want to build a culture of inclusion for everybody," Mr Yanda said.
BDAFL football operations manager Garry Burkinshaw said Maitland, Nelson Bay, Newcastle City, Warners Bay and Wyong Lakes will also field teams.
"We had a meeting with all six clubs last week and they demonstrated that they had sufficient numbers to field a team," Burkinshaw said.
"The interest from the women have been fantastic and has demonstrated that there is a market for women's football."
There will be an AFL gala day on April 18, and the competition will start on May 3.
