Other councils have softened their sea level stance and Lake Macquarie might be about to do the same.
The councillors have at least voted to receive a briefing on the matter from council staff.
At the council meeting on Monday night, Cr Jason Pauling called on the council to reduce its controversial projections of a 40cm rise by 2050 and a 90cm rise by 2100.
Gosford City Council recently halved its predictions.
