IN response to the council letter ("Setting the record straight over hall," Lakes Mail, Feb 19), I make the following observations.

Though the words "buy" and "sell" were not used by council representatives in their discussions with the hall committee, the council representatives explained that they had put together a draft proposal for a new town centre.
This included building the new library partly on the old post office site and partly where the memorial hall is situated.
As council was aware that the site was owned by the association, these facts imply that, sometime in the future, they would need to buy the hall site.
They have already bought the old post office site.
In regard to the Morisset police station, perhaps the reason for the withdrawal of the DA was that the government had not allocated sufficient funds to comply with all the alterations specified by council.
And I cannot see any evidence of the three council criteria relating to balconies and terraces, ground floor levels and street awnings being complied with in the proposed Morisset library building.
