Native shopping scenes
LAKE Haven Shopping Centre has unveiled a series of painted panels (pictured) created by Central Coast indigenous artist Kylie Cassidy. The artworks' theme is a "native shopping centre" and display the plants, animals and resources that the local Aboriginal people would have used in the area.

Push for traffic lights
WYONG Council will urge the RMS to install traffic lights at the blackspot intersection of Louisiana Road and Pacific Highway, Kanwal. "There is skate park nearby and children need to be able to cross this intersection safely and bandaid measures will not do," Wyong mayor Doug Eaton said.
Crash creates delays
A CAR accident on Dora Street, Morisset, caused widespread traffic delays for more than two hours on Monday afternoon. The accident occurred near the intersection with Wyee Street, and traffic diversions were put in place to enable emergency services personnel to do their work.
Ban new mines call
THE Climate and Health Alliance this week called on the state government not to approve any new coal mines in the Hunter. It says new mines should be banned, and the coal industry phased out, because the health damage caused by the industry was costing the community more than $650 million a year.
Windfall for council
LAKE Macquarie City Council received a third quarter allocation of $3.9 million in "no strings attached" financial handouts from the federal government. It was the most given to any Hunter local council in the government's recent round of the $2.3 billion Financial Assistance Grant program.
Youth Week funds
AT its meeting on Monday night, Lake Macquarie City Council authorised grants totalling $6000 for Youth Week events to be held in the city.
Film night out
LAKE Macquarie Performing Arts Centre, at Warners Bay, will be the venue for a film night next Friday, March 6, from 7pm. The films will be screened as part of International Women's Day celebrations. Book on 4921 0333.
School hall gone
RATHMINES Public School's hall was demolished over the weekend. The hall had been seriously damaged by fire. The Department of Education said it was too early to provide a cost or timetable for rebuilding.
Meet malamutes

Council job losses
ABOUT 30 job losses are looming for staff at Wyong Shire Council as it downsizes its water and sewer, and roads and drainage operations. The council intends to modernise services to boost efficiencies, and voluntary redundancies are being offered.
