What a shame. Closed, not because it is in a poor condition but because of some bureaucratic decision that schools with fewer than 300 students are not economical or socially viable.
Probably fair enough, but let's look at it from another angle.
It has been a much-loved community school, with a dedicated team of teachers, staff and P&Cs over the years.
It has hosted many activities and fundraising projects and only in the last three years received more than $100,000 from government grants to improve the facilities.
All the more reason why this school should not be left to vandals to destroy or sold off for land value only.
I think that this school should be offered as a facility for special needs kids.
It has very good easy access and with some simple changes from three-step timber stairs to ramps and other minor changes, could be up and running very soon.
Having spoken to lots of locals, ex-students and their parents, all would be happy to think that their beloved Eraring Public School would be given the opportunity of a new life.
