THE Newcastle Knights broke in the newly upgraded Wally Miles field at Myuna Bay Sport and Recreation Centre with a free children's training session on Thursday.

The $500,000 state government upgrade involved re-turfing, irrigation, drainage and lighting.
The new amenities include male, female and wheelchair accessible toilets and showers.
Chief executive for the Office of Sport, Matt Miller, said the upgrade ensures the Wally Miles sports field and amenities block is in mint condition.
"Myuna Bay's upgrade provides high quality facilities for professional teams like the Newcastle Knights while attracting and hosting a range of sports, games, activities and team training," Mr Miller said
"It represents another important investment in local sporting facilities which are so important to sports participation and elite sport."
Federal member for Charlton Pat Conroy, state member for Lake Macquarie Greg Piper, and Newcastle Knights' director of football Michael Hagan were on hand at the official opening.
After holding their own training session, the Newcastle Knights put local footy fans through their paces in a series of light-hearted drills, and it was difficult to tell who had more fun.
NSW Cup fullback of the year Nathan Ross was a favourite among the children who swarmed to tackle him at every opportunity.
