I WRITE in regard to the taxi and bus services at Toronto ... or lack thereof.
Upon our return to Toronto via Fassifern last Sunday by shuttle bus, my friend and I found ourselves waiting for a non-existent taxi service, as well as a non-existent bus service, to Rathmines.
We phoned a taxi company to be told "We'll send one when we can".
The shuttle bus driver on the Toronto-Fassifern run was helpful and very apologetic and, after seeing us still waiting for a taxi after his second run from Fassifern, spoke to the driver of a hire car, who was also a no-show.
After about two hours of waiting, I decided my only option was to try and hitch a ride to Rathmines. Either that, or walk.
But with my friend's "stuffed knees", as well as luggage, I would have needed to go alone, then drive back to pick him up.
Cheryl, who works at Millers, Toronto, behind the taxi rank, became aware of my ongoing saga when I asked her for a piece of cardboard that I could write my destination on and take my chances roadside.
Cheryl graciously offered to drive the two weary travellers to Rathmines. Thank goodness for Cheryl!
Many thanks.
