LAKE Macquarie councillors have awarded council general manager Brian Bell a pay rise but the council has refused to release the details, the Newcastle Herald reported this week.

The latest publicly available information showed that Mr Bell's salary in 2013-14 was $358,758. In comparison, state premier Mike Baird earns a remuneration package of $358,853.
A council review, which involved an external independent facilitator, said it had found Mr Bell's performance to be "more than satisfactory".
