WORK has started on a new 500-seat venue to attract major touring acts to the region.
Wyong Council's community partnerships and planning manager, Julie Vaughan, said The Art House, in Wyong, was on track for completion by Christmas 2015.
"It's really exciting. We have been lobbying, planning and designing for over 10 years and now it is full steam ahead.
"All the design aspects remain the same, from the fly tower to 500-seat auditorium, exhibition area and studio to the foyer cafe."
Mayor Doug Eaton turned the first sod and said it was "an exciting time for arts" in the shire.
He said it would "not only better accommodate our amazing local groups, but also host touring shows that otherwise would pass us by".
