Mr Jones said the cool nor'easter breeze died down about 5.30pm and the sky became grey.
"I checked the weather on the computer and could see quite a lot of yellow and red in the large green patch heading our way and I knew we were going to get a storm," Mr Jones said.
"The wind gradually increased from the north, bringing hot winds and then the rumbling started."
Rain headed across the lake from Wangi Wangi.
"The rain started along with the thunder and many lightning strikes all over the lake."
Mr Jones said there were a couple of strikes over his house and the claps of thunder "were like explosions".
"Everything returned to normal within about an hour with fortunately no damage here," he said.
Elsewhere, power was cut to about 10,000 homes because of storm-related damage.
