FURTHER to the story regarding traffic past Bonnells Bay Primary School ("Growing pains", Lakes Mail, November 13) I believe that urgent attention needs to be given to this matter if a tragic outcome is to be avoided.

This is a narrow road with a restricted shoulder on the school side, where drivers have been observed unloading young children while standing on the road at the opened rear door with another toddler beside them.
The mix of small children and heavy traffic creates an unacceptable hazard.
The fact that drivers' vision is limited when approaching the school's blind bend from the eastern side does not help.
The proposal to create on-street parking on the opposite side of the school should be considered as a short-term solution only.
What is really needed is a sealed set-down/pick-up area on the Crown land opposite the school, guarded by a pedestrian-proof fence with an overhead bridge to the school.
No stopping signs along both sides of the road would ensure complete separation of vehicles and children.
A roundabout might be considered at the hospital entrance road to provide access to the sealed area and improve traffic flow.
Disabled access could be via the existing gate into the school.
