IT continues to amaze me when I read about the traffic problems with schools, potential danger to pupils, and the way it is continually handled ("Growing pains", Lakes Mail, November 13).

Take Bonnells Bay school, for example. I can name probably a dozen schools that have similar circumstances and have been handled in the same manner
Problem: Roads run on two sides of the school, no adequate parking, heavy vehicles running past the school, and an expected increase in traffic. Government response: Impose 40km speed limit, build additional parking on side of road, add additional crossings, and probably police the area.
End result: Continued traffic chaos as the school gets larger, traffic congestion that impedes the local community, and probably a couple of serious accidents.
Solution: The school is surrounded by bushland. Build a one-way, private road that goes around the back of the school, from Fishery Point Road and enters on Morisset Park Road.
This road is only to be used by parents dropping off and picking up students, and buses.
Benefits: Total protection of students and no effect on local traffic; and safety.
