Now we're being asked if we'd like to upsize our bin for $25.

Lake Macquarie City Council is allowing residents to swap their existing 240-litre recycling bin for a 360-litre bin for a one-off fee of $25. That's an extra 50 per cent more bin space for your recyclables every fortnight.

For Elizabeth Moore, of Toronto, the offer was too good to pass up.

"I was constantly asking the neighbours in my street if they had any unused space in their bins that I could use," Ms Moore said.

The larger bin has solved that problem.

"I'd definitely recommend getting the bigger bin. It was quick and easy to organise and it took just two weeks for mine to arrive."

The recycling bin will be swapped on a recycling bin collection day. 

‘‘After the existing recycling bin is emptied, the resident leaves it on the kerb until 5pm so that it can be swapped over,’’ council waste officer Bridget Saint said. 

‘‘Council’s contractor, Solo, will contact the resident the week before the scheduled swap.  

‘‘It may take up to eight weeks after the application is received for the bin to be swapped – that is, four recycling collection days.’’
