I THINK we all need to be very clear about what is on offer regarding the proposed Morisset town centre.
What is on offer is a new, unfunded facility partially on land council does not own.
We all want new facilities, without question, it's not even a debate.
The precedent it would set, however, is unbelievable. What if council decides they don't like the look of my house and offers to build a community facility on it?
Apparently the owner's opinion does not matter.
The point is they don't own the land on which Morisset Memorial Hall sits. Further, they have no right to be spending ratepayers' money on a concept/proposal on land they do not own.
Imagine if I did that - drew up a proposal to turn my next door neighbour's place into a larger garage for me!
If council can do it, why not anyone else?
Even though there are no working drawings available to show exactly how the proposed space would be used in this building, I have received a letter from council indicating they are going to progress an independent heritage assessment of the memorial hall.
They are spending money on assessing a property they do not own.
It is not surprising we all have so much trouble trying to get council to spend our money on what they should be doing when they waste it like this.
