An array of 83,000 photo-voltaic panels will produce 20 megawatts of power for the residents of Canberra.
Stage 2 of the project will include a further 20 megawatts capacity.
There will be no sound from the panels and no pollution over their 30-year life.
In fact, this project will save some 4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide and other toxic substances being released into the atmosphere.
