About 9pm, police were called to bushland near Flaggy Creek Reserve, Kahibah, after reports of a stabbing.
It’s believed two teenage girls, aged 17 and 18, were socialising with a group of people before getting into a fight.
Police will allege that during this fight, the older girl used a pocket knife to stab the younger teen in the chest, stomach, arms and hands.
Emergency services were notified and the injured girl was taken to John Hunter Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.
The 18-year-old was arrested nearby and taken to Charlestown Police Station, where she was charged with reckless wounding and granted strict conditional bail.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000.
